Top 10 IT Outsourcing Companies in India: 2026 Rankings

Top IT Outsourcing companies in India
TL;DR
  • The top 10 IT outsourcing companies in India: TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, LTIMindtree, Mphasis, Persistent Systems, Clarion Technologies, and Wisemonk.
  • The five largest India-headquartered providers suit multi-year enterprise programs. Mid-market specialists move faster and talk to you at founder level.
  • Outsourcing rents you capacity. An Employer of Record gives you the same engineers as your own employees, which changes who owns the code and the roadmap.
  • Judge vendors on attrition on your account, named team continuity, and IP assignment wording, not on headline hourly rate.
  • Wisemonk is last on this list and it is us. We are the one entry that employs the engineers for you rather than renting them to you.

Who are the top IT outsourcing companies in India, and does the biggest name on the list actually suit a company your size?

That second half is the part most rankings skip. A provider running a 4,000 person program for a bank is not the right answer for a 40 person SaaS company, even though it will happily take the meeting.

So this list does two things. It names the ten providers that genuinely dominate India IT outsourcing, and it tells you honestly which kind of buyer each one fits. If you are weighing outsourcing against employing people yourself, start with the best way to hire employees in India.

One disclosure before we start. Wisemonk is entry number ten, and we have put ourselves last on purpose. We are also the only entry that does something different from the other nine, which we will explain when we get there.

What is IT outsourcing to India, and what can you actually hand over?

IT outsourcing to India means contracting an Indian provider to run technology work your own staff would otherwise do, from writing software to running your help desk. The provider employs the people, owns delivery, and bills you for the service. Our broader guide to IT outsourcing covers the concept globally.

In practice, four categories of work make up most India contracts:

  • Software development and engineering: custom builds, product work, modernization and QA. See outsourcing software development to India for how those engagements are priced.
  • Cloud, data and AI work: migrations, data platforms, and the machine learning projects that now attach to most transformation programs.
  • Infrastructure and managed services: service desk, network and endpoint management, security operations, and application support.
  • Business process work: finance operations, customer support and other back office outsourcing that sits next to the technology contract.

Before you shortlist a provider, though, it is worth knowing that outsourcing is only one of four ways to get this work done.

What are your four options for building a technology team in India?

You can build in-house or you can outsource, and each of those splits in two. The difference that matters in every case is who legally employs the people and who directs their work.

  1. Build in-house with your own entity: you register a company in India, employ people directly, and take on the full compliance load. Maximum control, maximum overhead.
  2. Build in-house through an Employer of Record: an India Employer of Record is the legal employer, so you need no entity, but the team is yours and you direct the work.
  3. Outsource through staff augmentation: you get people working alongside your team, but the outsourcing company employs them. This is staff augmentation, and it is the most common India model.
  4. Outsource the whole function to a provider: you hand over a project or a function and the provider owns delivery, staffing and outcomes against a contract.

Nine of the ten companies below sell you option three or four. The tenth, which is us, delivers option two. If you want that comparison in depth, read GCC vs outsourcing in India. Now to the list itself, and how it was built.

How did we choose these ten companies?

We used four criteria, and we are stating them so you can disagree with them:

  • Headquartered in India: which is why global consultancies with large India delivery arms, such as Accenture, Cognizant, IBM and Capgemini, are not on this list. They are competitors, just not Indian companies.
  • Proven delivery for overseas clients: long-running programs for US, UK and European buyers rather than mostly domestic Indian work.
  • A distinct reason to pick them: each entry does something the others do not, so the list is useful rather than ten variations of the same pitch.
  • Coverage across buyer sizes: enterprise providers, mid-market specialists, and one option for companies that want to employ the team directly.

We have not published revenue or headcount figures for each firm, because those numbers move every quarter and stale figures are worse than none. Check the company's latest filings if scale is your deciding factor.

Who are the top 10 IT outsourcing companies in India?

The ten are TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, LTIMindtree, Mphasis, Persistent Systems, Clarion Technologies, and Wisemonk. The first five are the large enterprise providers, the next four are specialists, and the tenth is a different model entirely. For a global rather than India-only view, see our list of software development outsourcing companies.

1. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)

Part of the Tata Group and India's largest IT services company by revenue. TCS is the default answer for multi-year, multi-country programs where procurement wants a name the board already recognizes.

Best for: large enterprises running core system transformation across several regions at once.

Worth knowing: contracts and governance are built for scale, so a small team engagement will feel slow and expensive relative to a mid-market firm.

2. Infosys

Headquartered in Bengaluru and the provider most often shortlisted alongside TCS. Strong in enterprise digital programs, cloud migration and the consulting layer that sits above delivery.

Best for: enterprises that want strategy and implementation from the same supplier.

Worth knowing: ask which named people stay on your account after the pitch, because pitch teams and delivery teams are rarely the same.

3. HCLTech

Built its reputation on infrastructure and engineering services rather than pure applications work, which still shows. Particularly credible on product engineering and running estates you would rather not touch.

Best for: engineering services, product engineering, and large infrastructure or managed service contracts.

Worth knowing: a good fit if your problem is operational scale, less so if you want a small product team moving quickly.

4. Wipro

A long-established Bengaluru provider spanning IT services and consulting, with deep benches in financial services, energy and healthcare.

Best for: regulated industries where domain knowledge and audit trails matter as much as engineering.

Worth knowing: scope the statement of work tightly, since broad transformation mandates are where cost overruns tend to appear.

5. Tech Mahindra

Part of the Mahindra Group and the strongest of the large providers in telecom and network engineering, with a broader enterprise practice around it.

Best for: telecom, connectivity and network-heavy engineering programs.

Worth knowing: outside telecom it competes on price and flexibility rather than on being the obvious specialist.

6. LTIMindtree

Formed from the merger of Larsen & Toubro Infotech and Mindtree, which gave it enterprise scale alongside Mindtree's more product-minded delivery culture.

Best for: mid-size to large buyers who want enterprise capability without the largest providers' governance overhead.

Worth knowing: ask which heritage organization your delivery team comes from, because the two cultures still differ in practice.

7. Mphasis

Concentrated in banking, financial services and insurance, with a heavy applications and cloud practice serving those sectors.

Best for: financial services buyers who value sector fluency over general breadth.

Worth knowing: outside financial services you will likely find a better matched specialist elsewhere on this list.

8. Persistent Systems

A Pune-based provider built around product engineering, which means it is used to working for software companies rather than for internal IT departments. That difference shows up in how it runs roadmaps.

Best for: software and SaaS companies outsourcing part of their own product build.

Worth knowing: a strong fit for product work, less oriented toward large infrastructure or service desk contracts.

9. Clarion Technologies

A Pune-based mid-market firm that has spent around two decades supplying dedicated development teams to small and mid-size overseas businesses, and it is a regular fixture in buyer shortlists for that segment.

Best for: smaller companies that want a dedicated team and direct access to senior people.

Worth knowing: it will not carry a global multi-region program, and does not claim to.

10. Wisemonk

The tenth entry is us, and it is the only one on this list that does not rent you engineers. Wisemonk provides EOR services in India, which means we legally employ the engineers you choose while you direct their work as your own team.

That is a genuinely different transaction from the other nine. With a vendor you buy an outcome or a set of hours. With us you get employees, your own IP chain, and no supplier margin sitting on top of each salary.

Best for: companies that want a permanent India team they control, or compliant contractors for project work, without registering an entity.

Pricing: from $99 per employee per month. We have not quoted an hourly rate here because we do not sell hours, and inventing one to fill the column would be dishonest. See our pricing.

Also available, contractor engagement: if the work is project-based, or you want to start someone before committing to a permanent role, our Contractor of Record service makes us the legal contracting party in India while you direct the work.

That covers contractor agreements that are enforceable under Indian law, IP assignment structured under India's Copyright Act, and TDS and GST filings handled for you.

It also fixes the part finance teams dislike. You send one funding wire and we disburse locally at a 0.5% FX markup, with contractors paid the next business day instead of waiting on separate international transfers.

Worth knowing: you can run both models at once, employees for the core team and contractors for specialist or short-term work, under one agreement and one invoice. Most companies go from first call to a signed contract within 48 hours.

Want the team without the supplier margin?

We employ engineers in India on your behalf, usually within weeks and without an entity.

The last column is the one to sit with. Every row above it means someone else employs your engineers, and that single fact drives most of the differences that surface later. Our comparison of EOR vs direct hiring in India unpacks what changes.

How do you choose the right IT outsourcing company in India?

Match the provider to the shape of your problem, then interrogate five things that rarely appear in a proposal. Hourly rate is the least useful number in the pack, because a low rate paired with high turnover costs more across two years, which is one of the better known hiring challenges in India.

  • Attrition on your account: not company-wide attrition, which is a marketing number. Ask what percentage of your named team is still there after twelve months.
  • The IP assignment chain: confirm the provider holds signed assignments from each engineer and can pass those rights to you. Read protecting IP when hiring in India before signing.
  • Time zone overlap in writing: agree the committed overlap hours in the contract, not in the kickoff call where everyone is agreeable. Our tips on working with offshore teams in India cover the rituals that make it hold.
  • Exit terms: who owns the repositories, how knowledge transfer works, and whether you may hire the team afterwards. See the legal considerations for outsourcing to India.
  • The fully loaded cost: management fees, change requests and knowledge transfer add up. Our breakdown of the cost of outsourcing to India covers the hidden lines.

Ask those five questions and the shortlist usually shrinks itself. The failures, when they happen, are almost never technical.

What usually goes wrong with India IT outsourcing?

Four problems account for most disappointing engagements, and all four are avoidable at contract stage. They overlap heavily with the common mistakes US companies make hiring in India:

  • Team substitution: the engineers you interviewed rotate off within months. Name key people in the contract and attach notice requirements to replacing them.
  • Knowledge that never transfers: context lives with the vendor, so leaving becomes expensive. Insist your documentation and repositories are yours from day one.
  • Misclassification exposure: if you direct individuals day to day while paying them as contractors, you may be carrying contractor misclassification risk in India without realizing it.
  • Scope drift on fixed-price work: every clarification becomes a change request. For evolving products, a dedicated team model fits better than fixed price.

If reading that list makes you want to own the team instead of renting it, that is a reasonable conclusion, and our playbook for building an offshore team in India sets out how.

Frequently asked questions

Which are the Big 5 IT companies in India?

TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro and Tech Mahindra are generally treated as India's five largest IT services companies. All five are India-headquartered, serve global enterprise clients, and appear on almost every credible ranking of Indian IT outsourcing providers.

Why are Accenture and Cognizant not on this list?

Because this list covers India-headquartered companies. Accenture, Cognizant, IBM and Capgemini all run very large India delivery centers and compete for the same work, but they are headquartered elsewhere, so they sit outside our stated selection criteria.

How much does IT outsourcing to India cost?

Rates vary widely by role, seniority and provider size, and published hourly rates rarely reflect the final invoice. Management fees, change requests and knowledge transfer typically add materially to the total, so compare fully loaded cost over two years rather than headline rates.

Which Indian city is the biggest IT hub?

Bengaluru is India's largest technology hub and the usual first choice for engineering teams. Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, the Delhi capital region and Ahmedabad all host substantial IT industries, often with somewhat lower salary levels and lower competition for talent.

Should you outsource to India, hire employees, or use contractors?

Outsource when the scope is fixed and finite. Employ directly, via an entity or an Employer of Record, for continuous product work. Use a Contractor of Record for project or specialist work where you want compliant agreements and local payments without a permanent hire.

Who owns the code when you outsource software development to India?

Whoever the contract says, which is why the assignment wording matters. The provider needs signed assignments from each engineer and the ability to pass those rights to you. Without that chain, ownership can be unclear long after the project ends.

How quickly can an India IT outsourcing engagement start?

A vendor with available bench can often start in two to four weeks. Building your own team takes longer, since Indian tech notice periods commonly run 30 to 90 days, though an Employer of Record removes the entity setup wait from that timeline.
